1000 political prisonersThe elections that are being held regularly in Iran do not meet democratic standards. There is no freedom of expression, and women and religious minorities are systematically discriminated against. Criticism of the regime or participation in protests can lead to harsh punishment, including the death penalty, which has been used against protestors in the past. There are more than 1000 political prisoners in Iran. International public pressure on the regime has helped in some cases in the past. |
